Welcome to corporate America, where young professionals’ dreams come to die.  Imagine landing your dream job—the prestige, the title, the shiny laptop still smelling of corporate optimism. You uproot your life, say goodbye to your favorite coffee shop, and move to another state.  After you’ve just settled in, a partner says, “Switch divisions and you can go back home to work in our office there.”  You switch, make plans to move home, and even put in an offer on a house.  However, the promise evaporates as a more senior partner reneges, refusing to honor what the junior partner promised.  Welcome to corporate cartography, where “remote” means remote chance.  Oh the betrayal!
